South Racing Can-Am Maverick X3

When it comes to impressive resumes, few come more noteworthy than the six-year winning streak Canadian manufacturer Can-Am enjoyed in the Dakar Rally between 2018 and 2023. In recent years, the Can-Am Maverick has been at the head of the field consistently, showcasing its performance, durability and reliability.

In its operations, Can-Am is aided by South Racing. Founded in 2013, the German firm has become a major operation in the cross country and rally raid market and is responsible for the manufacturing of the Maverick X3 and is ideally positioned to serve a global market through operations in Portugal, South Africa and Dubai.

This particular Maverick X3 was newly constructed in 2022 ahead of the 2023 edition of the Dakar Rally, It was raced by Dakar Team Spierings in the SSV class, where Paul Spierings and Jan-Pieter van der Spelt finished 14th. Of note, 14 out of the top 15 finishers in the class drove Can-Am Mavericks, further showcasings the brand’s sublime Dakar track record.

Built to and fully compliant with FIA T4 regulations, the Maverick X3 is powered by a turbocharged, 900cc three-cylinder engine. It is capable of producing 197 horsepower, although the power output is capped at 160 horsepower when fitted with a 25mm restrictor. The roll cage, fuel tank and all safety equipment is in accordance to FIA standards. Other notable features include Ohlins Dampers, OMP racing seats and seat belts as well as automatic and manual fire extinguishers.
