Maastricht, 8 December 2023 - Having confirmed its driver duo for the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe earlier this week, Team RaceArt today also announces its return to the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux and proudly welcomes reigning BetCity Mazda MX-5 Cup champion Sam Jongejan.
RaceArt will return to the Carrera Cup Benelux with a pair of freshly acquired 992 GT3 Cups, set to be piloted by Sam Jongejan and Am-class podium finisher Jules Grouwels. The Maastricht-based squad last competed in the Porsche one-make series in 2019. Led by gentleman driver Roger Grouwels, the team enjoyed championship success in the Am class across multiple seasons.
The team is proud and thrilled to welcome 18-year-old prodigy Jongejan to its ranks for its Carrera Cup return. The Dutch teenager has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks of Dutch motorsport, highlighted by a hard-fought championship triumph in his sophomore BetCity Mazda MX-5 Cup season earlier this year. Jongejan, a member of the inaugural KNAF Talent Academy roster, also impressed during his Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux debut at the Red Bull Ring in September. During a one-off appearance in Austria, the teenager braved challenging wet conditions during the Sunday race to pick up an overall podium finish in only his second race start at the wheel of a Porsche 992 GT3 Cup.
"I always carry the words 'impossible is possible' with me as a motto and with that in mind, I'm incredibly happy that RaceArt gave me the opportunity to take the next step in my racing career," Sam said. "It still feels unreal, but I'm going to do the best I can."
Jules Grouwels, who achieved a podium finish in the Am class during a cameo appearance at Zandvoort earlier this year, will pilot the team’s second car. Grouwels is set to prepare for the full season with an additional campaign in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe, racing the 992 GT3 Cup at Portimao, Estoril, Valencia and Barcelona. As previously announced, his teammate for that championship will be Senna van Soelen.
“We’re thrilled to be returning to the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux next year,” said team manager Marwin Moonen. “The championship has grown a lot since we last raced there and the 992 GT3 Cup is clearly a successful platform. To have Sam Jongejan with us for the full season is very exciting. His results in Mazda racing speak for themselves and to score a podium in wet conditions in debut is very impressive. Sam has been eagerly searching for a way to take the next step in his career and we’re glad to be able to offer him exactly that. Sam and Jules will form an exciting driver pairing that will hopefully allow us to fight for trophies in multiple classes. We can’t wait to get started.”
