TEAM RACEART READY FOR START OF PORSCHE CARRERA CUP BENELUX SEASON AFTER MULTI-DAY TESTING PROGRAMME

  • Team RaceArt completes three days of testing to prepare for new season
  • Jaap van Lagen fastest in official test and media day at Zandvoort
  • Season opener at Spa-Francorchamps to take place on May 8-10

Maastricht, 10 April 2025 - Team RaceArt has successfully completed a multi-day testing programme ahead of the kickoff of the 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux season. Drivers Sam Jongejan, Jules Grouwels and Jaap van Lagen turned a large number of laps at Zandvoort and Spa-Francorchamps in order to prepare as best as possible for what will be a challenging campaign.

The upcoming season, which kicks off at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on May 8-10, will mark a significant milestone for the Maastricht-based squad as it will run three cars in Carrera Cup Benelux for the first time.

The initial shakedown test at Spa, which took place on March 28, was the first time all three drivers shared the track together. Jongejan and Grouwels returned to the cockpits of cars No. 65 and No. 77, decked out in the same liveries that took them both to several race victories last year. Veteran racer Van Lagen, meanwhile, had his first outing in the No. 69 Porsche, fitted with a predominantly yellow colour scheme.

This was followed up with a highly productive day during the championship’s official test and media day, held at Circuit Zandvoort on April 3. Buoyed by pleasant weather conditions, the three drivers combined to log a total of 241 laps across the day - the most of any team. Van Lagen also set the outright fastest time of the day with a 1:37.105, thus showing he wasted no time getting up to speed as he prepares to race for the team for the first time since 2012.

RaceArt’s pre-season preparations were capped off with a second test day at Spa-Francorchamps on April 9, with Jongejan and Grouwels driving. This test also featured a significant number of teams and drivers from other Porsche one-make championships, such as the Porsche 1 Mobil Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. Despite that, Jongejan in particular showed himself well. The 18-year-old ended the fifth and final session of the day fourth overall, only a few tenths off faster drivers.

With the pre-season programme completed, the team now turns its attention to the Spa season opener, where the Carrera Cup Benelux will form part of the support bill for the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Drivers’ quotes:

Sam Jongejan: “The test days went extremely well. I really felt I made a step forward. The comparison I can make with Supercup drivers during these test days also gives me confirmation that we are on the right track. The cooperation with Jaap and Jules is also at a higher level again this season, so I am looking forward enormously to Spa - perhaps the best weekend of the season!”

Jules Grouwels: “After a number of very successful test days, where I not just confirmed but also managed to improve my form compared to last year, I am hugely looking forward to the first race weekend at Spa. I hope to compete well against the experienced Pro-Am drivers and hopefully also battle with some young talents from the Rookie class.”

Jaap van Lagen: “All in all it was a good test, but I wasn't completely satisfied with the car yet. We can still improve a few things so that the car does what I want, but nevertheless I am very much looking forward to the first race on the beautiful circuit of Spa-Francorchamps and the cooperation with Team RaceArt.”
