Maastricht, 30 September 2025 - Team RaceArt capped off its dominant season in Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux in perfect style by clinching both the overall drivers’ and Pro-Am championships in the Zandvoort finale. Jaap van Lagen and Jules Grouwels captured their respective titles with a race to spare. Sam Jongejan finished runner-up in the overall standings after a strong recovery drive in the final race of the season.
The Maastricht-based squad traveled to Zandvoort with the teams’ championship already in the bag as a perfect weekend sweep during the penultimate round at Zolder meant it could no longer be overhauled
in the standings. However, two more crowns remained up for grabs at the Dutch seaside circuit as Van Lagen and Grouwels entered the finale with healthy leads that meant they both had the possibility to clinch their respective titles in the first race of the weekend.
After two productive Free Practice sessions on Friday, qualifying brought a big moment for Jongejan, who put in a strong performance to capture overall pole position for only the second time in his Carrera Cup career. With Van Lagen on pole for Race 2 and Grouwels sweeping qualifying in Pro-Am, the stage was set for the final two races of the season.
Once the opening race of the weekend got underway on Saturday afternoon, Jongejan took control from the start and controlled the pack from the front while Van Lagen set about fighting his way forward. He battled his way past both Robin Knutsson and Niels Langeveld and assumed second place. Then, on the final lap, Jongejan displayed terrific team mentality as part of a pre-agreed plan and moved aside for Van Lagen to allow his teammate to clinch the overall drivers’ championship with a race to spare.
For Van Lagen, the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux title adds to a glittering CV that already included multiple single seater racing championships as well as race wins in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as well as several 24-hour races.
Meanwhile, in the Pro-Am category, Grouwels followed Van Lagen’s example and also locked up the Pro-Am title with a race to spare. Although he finished Race 1 second in class, his points tally plus the
number of class wins achieved across the season meant he could no longer be surpassed in the standings in Race 2.
Grouwels’ Pro-Am title, secured in his second season in the category, came in convincing fashion and served as a huge reward for the significant improvements made by the Dutch racer since he stepped into Porsche single-make racing.
Race 2, the final one of the 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux season, started with Van Lagen and Jongejan on pole position. While Van Lagen had a strong start and controlled the race from the front, Jongejan lost some ground at the start and subsequently spun at Turn 3. He dropped to last overall.
With his runner-up spot in the overall championship suddenly under threat, Jongejan put in an impressive recovery drive and stormed back up to seventh place by the time the checkered flag dropped. As a result, he retained his second place in the standings by just a single point.
Newly crowned Pro-Am champion Grouwels, meanwhile, finished off his season in style with a class victory in ninth overall.
With the full Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux season now completed, Team RaceArt can look back at a stellar campaign in the competitive single make series. Van Lagen and Jongejan picked up a combined
seven overall victories, thus winning more than half the races across the season. Grouwels added a further seven Pro-Am class wins.
Driver comments:
Sam Jongejan
“I am delighted that we secured the drivers' championship for Jaap as a team and that I was able to contribute to this. The second race didn't end as I had hoped, but I'm still happy that I was able to secure second place in the championship by a single point. I think this shows that we were the best team this season, with the two best drivers. I'm especially looking forward to continuing to grow with the team in motorsport. We'll see what 2026 has in store for us."
Jaap van Lagen
“What a weekend! Unbelievable. My best weekend of the whole year with two victories. To end the season like this is fantastic, of course. The icing on the cake is, of course, the drivers' title. We were already strong in Zolder, where we became teams’ champions, and now I've also won the drivers' title, Jules has won the Pro-Am title and Sam is second in the overall standings. So we've really won everything there was to win. That's mainly thanks to a very strong team. So it's not just me, Sam and Jules, but all of us together. I'm super proud of the whole team. Everyone is on the same page. Most of them have been working for the team for years and it's just a really good group of people. I feel a kind of family feeling at RaceArt. That's great to see and it's fantastic for all the guys who have been working hard for years to now be able to celebrate such success. Roger stuck his neck out for this, so thanks to Roger too. Super proud. All in all, it's been a very successful year and I would like to continue with RaceArt. I'm curious to see what will happen and am looking forward to it.”
Jules Grouwels
“I’m super happy and also very relieved to have won the Pro-Am title after two tense final rounds. I’m also proud that we managed to capture all three titles as a team.”
